7 Ways to Prevent Cancer in India – Doctor Prasoon

Hello friends, I’m Dr. Prasoon Welcome to Dofody Perhaps one of the most dreaded disease that a person fears from, and one that he never wishes to get is Cancer! If someone has Cancer, it not only wastes time and money! It affects the whole family! Lakhs of Rupees might be needed to treat Cancer. In some cases, it cannot be completely treated even after spending millions of Rupees. It eventually leads to death! But, did you know that most cancers can be prevented? I’m talking about this topic in this video. So, lets get started. If you haven’t subscribed to Dofody channel, please do it right now! How can you prevent cancer? I have 7 points for you.

#1. The first point is about a vaccine, the Human Papilloma Virus vaccine or HPV vaccine. It prevents cervical cancer in women. The HPV virus can cause cervical cancer in women. It can also cause anal cancer, mouth cancer in men. women can also get vulvar cancer. HPV vaccine should be encouraged to be taken in adolescent girls and boys. The HPV vaccine is supplied free of cost in some states in India by the Government itself.  Outside India, in almost all developed countries like US and UK, this vaccine is given to all boys and girls. The HPV vaccine is effective only if it’s given before marriage or before becoming sexually active. So, this vaccine is usually not recommended after the age of 26 years.

#2. It’s about preventing Skin cancer. This type of cancer is most commonly seen in persons who work outdoors, those who are exposed to sunlight for long hours, and those who do not use sunscreens.

The two types of rays in sunlight, Ultraviolet A or UV A and ultraviolet B or  UV B  exposure leads to skin cancer. It is pretty easy to prevent skin cancer. First of all, if you are a person who works for long hours outdoors,  you should wear protective clothes that covers maximum exposed skin! Use sunscreens. When shopping for sunscreens, buy the ones with  SPF, which is “Sun Protection Factor” more than 30. Such sunscreens with SPF more than 30 should be applied on your exposed skin. It should be re-applied every 2 hours. These simple steps will protect you from skin cancer by at least 97%! 

#3. It’s regarding some Screening Tests. It is always better to detect cancer in its early stage itself. If detected early, cancer can be treated successfully and even cured by surgery,  radiotherapy or chemotherapy. That’s where screening tests come into play. Based on several factors like your age, gender, family history, and other risk factors, several useful screening tests are now available. For example, Mammogram is the best screening test for diagnosing breast cancer, Colonoscopy is the screening test to detect cancers in the large intestine,  cervical cancer can be diagnosed early using the Pap Smear test. Using these screening tests, many types of cancers can be detected early enough so that early treatment can be started. Early treatment can actually cure cancers and the patient will be able to lead a normal life. To know the best screening test for you, talk to your doctors. They will consider your family history and other risk factors to recommend the best screening test for you. 

#4. Prevent Lung Cancer. Lung cancer is one of the most common types of cancers in India. To prevent lung cancer, you have to stay away from smoking. If you are a person who has not yet started smoking, please don’t start it! and if you are an occasional smoker, try to quit smoking as soon as possible. They say that “It’s never too late to quit smoking”!  Your risk of lung cancer starts decreasing the day you quit smoking! be it today or tomorrow.

 

#5. Your body weight. Overweight and obesity have been found to be associated with many types of cancers. It has been proven repeatedly in many studies. Examples include breast cancer, esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, pancreas cancer, and colon cancer. To prevent all these varieties of cancers, all you need to do is to keep your body weight in the normal range. tart doing whatever you can do to reduce your body fat and make your body weight a normal one.

#6. A healthy diet to prevent cancer! Along with making your body bringing your body weight to the normal range,  you should start eating a healthy diet. A low fat, high protein diet, one that is low in red meat,  fiber-rich diet, one that is rich in various types of fruits and vegetables. Leafy greens etc.

Start adopting a healthy diet! Avoid buying bakery sweets, fruit juices processed, and canned food. Avoid readymade ready to eat food, those which come in packets. Switch over to cooking rather than eating outside. A healthy diet will not only prevent cancer, but it will protect you from heart diseases, strokes, high blood pressure, and diabetes.

#7. Start exercises start some kind of physical exercise, at least 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Exercise can prevent you from breast cancer, stomach cancer, endometrial cancer, A person who can do exercise regularly on a strict discipline will be able to prevent cancer by adopting the other measures too, very easily. Not just that, you will also be able to prevent high cholesterol, stroke, heart attack, and when you do exercises daily, your overall health. Studies have shown that the chances of cancer developing in persons who exercise regularly is very little.
